Note: Some options and features may vary from the article below based on your CS Project package.
The File Open and File Save dialogues look similar, the only difference being that a file has to exist to be opened, whereas it does not necessarily have to exist to be saved.
» File name - allows you to type the name of the file you want to load/save. You can optionally include a drive letter and/or path e.g.C:\Username\Documents\Project1.CSP. Filenames must not have illegal characters such as */\”|<>. Alternatively you can select an existing file from the list.
» List files of type or Save file as type - allows you to select which file types to display in the list, if relevant. For example when opening a project, the file types listed can be either .CSP files (CS Project format) or .MPX files (Microsoft Project Exchange format). If selected, only files with the corresponding extension will be displayed in the list. Any name you type in the File name field is assumed to be of the selected type.
» File types - there are a number of formats CS Project is able to save as. The key formats for file exchange with other project scheduling systems are:
- MPX Files - basic file exchange with MS Project and other systems such as Time Chainage & 4D modelling
- XML Files - standard file exchange with MS Project 2003, 2007, 2010
- XML for Primavera P6 - modified XML for use with Primavera
- iCalendar - for exporting schedules to Google Calendars
