You may wish to add text information or images to the bar chart area. Text can be added as a series or bar labels, or if required, a text box to highlight key dates on your chart.
Bar Labels
Bar Labels are located relative to a bar position on the Gantt chart, i.e., labels can be shown as leading, trailing, above, below within the bar. You can also choose which information you wish to display from any of the CS Project data fields associated with the activities or by selecting one of the ten dedicated text fields, you can add free text.
To add a bar label, right mouse click anywhere in the chart area and select ‘Bar Chart Options, alternatively ‘Configuration – Bar Chart Options on the menu bar to open the Bar Chart Properties window.
The previous image shows preceding text displaying the activity ID and trailing text showing information from Text 1 field. Entering text in this field will add that text to the Gantt chart.
Text Box
To add a text box you can right mouse click on the bar chart area and select ‘Text’.
Alternatively, you can click the Text button in the Edit toolbar. This will open the ‘Insert Text’ window as shown.
This window allows you to enter your free text/font style, select the frame style and properties and to choose to fix the text box relative to a task (so that it moves as the program is updated) or to a significant date – See the circled options above.
Once the text box has been added, it can be re-sized and/or moved to its final position by clicking and dragging with the mouse pointer.
Insert Picture
To add a picture you can right-mouse-click on the bar chart area and select “Picture” (Alternatively you can click the Picture button in the Edit toolbar). This will open the “Insert Picture” window shown below.
From here you can browse to the location of your picture file (a low-resolution preview will be displayed), set the required height/depth and, as per the text box described above, choose to position it relative to a task or a specific date.
Once the picture has been added it can be re-sized and/or moved to its final position by clicking and dragging with the mouse pointer.
