In CS Project, you can adjust the font family, sizes and style as well as the width of the task bars.
To do this, right click on the gantt chart and go to the ‘Bar Chart options’.
Next, make sure it says ‘Basic...’ at the bottom to indicate that you are in one of the two different views. Then, click on the ‘Bars’ tab at the top. Here you will be able to see all of the different types of bars within your programme, e.g. Critical, Normal, Summary bars and more. On the bars you wish to edit to make thicker, simply press the three dots in the ‘Format’ tab. In this example, I changed the ‘Normal’ bar, however you may need to change the ‘Critical’ bar. This will bring up the formatting window.
This will bring up the dialog box for customising the format of the bars, such as colour, symbols, patterns and more. Edit the ‘Size’ field. In order to keep an appropriate aspect ratio, it will be locked to certain values. In this instance, you will want to change it to either 85, or 250. 250 would be too big for your standard use of CS Project, but may help temporarily making reports look a bit clearer.
Press OK and you will be taken back to the Bar Chart Properties dialog.
Here, you will want to press the ‘Fonts..’ button. This will take you to the dialog box for changing fonts. You can also access this dialog box by right clicking on the gantt chart -> fonts
In the Fonts dialog, on the left you can select what text you wish to change. You then have options on the right such as size, style such as bold, and the font itself. The ‘Outline Level’ refers to the tasks, as people with intended tasks would want to customise them separately.
For this example, I will adjust the Column Headings, Date Bar, Outline Level 1 and Level 2.
Feel free to adjust these values to your own personal taste and preference. For this example I set the;
- Column Headings: Size 17 and Bold
- Date Bar: Size 18 and Bold
- Outline Level 1: Size 28 and Bold
- Outline Leve 2: Size 26 and Bold
With the ‘Force to pages’ option, the end result is an exaggerated report to demonstrate the customisation of CS Project views. The Date bar at the top can also be adjusted for size and scale, but this means the size of the gantt chart also has to increase, length wise, meaning it may require adjusting the other settings, or increasing the pages of the report.
