Note: Some options and features may vary from the article below based on your CS Project package.
You may be wanting to stop the ‘Progress Tracking Line’ from following the Summary task.
To do this, you will need to turn off all data for Summary tasks when they are in the ‘Open’ state.
From this:
To this:
Step One
1.) First of all, it may be a good idea to save and backup your config file before tampering by going to the Configuration tab > Save
2.) To begin, ensure that the Bar Chart is selected, and go to the Configuration toolbar > Bar Chart options. (Alternatively, right-click on the bar chart and select Bar Chart Options). If one of the buttons at the bottom says ‘Advanced’ click it (if it reads ‘Basic’, you are in the right view.)
3.) We recommend that you create a new layout before you alter an existing one.
4.) Go to the Bars tab and press the three dots under the ‘Filter’ column for the relevant summaries and untick the box that reads ‘Open’. (See picture below)
In the same list, find ‘Percent Complete’, clicking on the ‘Filter’ three dots once more and unticking Summary Activities.
Your progress line will now ignore the Summary task.
You may wish to have Progress showing on Summary Bars when they are closed / rolled up. To do this you will need to add an additional Bar Type.
Step Two – Showing Progress on Summary Bars when closed.
1.) Go to the Configuration toolbar > Bar Chart options. (Alternatively, right-click on the bar chart and select Bar Chart Options). If one of the buttons at the bottom says ‘Advanced’ click it (if it reads ‘Basic’, you are in the right view) and go to the Bars tab.
2.) Insert a new line and name the bar accordingly. (In this case, Percent on Summary)
3.) Under the ‘Type’ column, select ‘Complete’ then press the three dots in the Format column.
4.) Make sure everything is ticked except for Detail Activities and Open.
You may also want to set the summary progress on activity to the latest actual duration of detail activities.
Step Three – Updating Options
1.) Go to the Progress tab and click on Updating Options
2.) Tick the box that reads ‘Set summary/project actual duration to latest completion of detail activities’ and press OK.
3.) As you can see via the before and after below, the blue progress line has now been adjusted accordingly.
